WHERE DOES IRELAND'S ENERGY COME FROM?

Ireland heavily depends on imports of oil, gas and coal. In 2017, Ireland produced 4.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) of energy domestically while importing 9.8 million toe. This means that Ireland currently imports roughly two thirds of its energy. --- The information is taken from the following article on RTE News: At a glance: Where does Ireland's energy come from? 6 Sep 2022

HOW MUCH ENERGY DOES IRELAND IMPORT EVERY YEAR, IN MWH?

In 2017, Ireland imported 9.8 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) of energy. This is equivalent to 114 million megawatt hours (MWh).

HOW MUCH ENERGY WOULD IRISH FARMS NEED TO GENERATE TO ELIMINATE ALL ENERGY IMPORTS?

To eliminate all energy imports, an average Irish farm would need to generate 829 MWh of energy per year. We believe that this figure can be achieved with less than 3% of land used for renewables.

DOES IT MAKE SENCE FROM FINACIAL POINT OF VIEW?

Under our plan, with less than 3% of the land used for renewables, a typical farm could more than triple its annual income. We believe that the initial investment will be paid back in 5-10 years depending on future energy prices.

IS THERE ANY GOVERNMENT SUPPORT AVAILABLE?

Yes, the new Solar Capital Investment Scheme (SCIS) under TAMS 3 provides grants of 60% up to a maximum capital investment of €90,000. This means that farmers could save up to €54,000 on the cost of installing solar panels on their farms.

WHAT IS the EUROPEAN GREEN DEAL?

The European Green Deal is a set of ambitious plans to make the European Union climate neutral by 2050. The deal includes a number of measures to promote renewable energy including the Renewable Energy Directive and the Energy Efficiency Directive.

WHAT IS REPOWER EU?

REPowerEU is a plan to reduce Europe's reliance on Russian fossil fuels. The plan includes measures to increase renewable energy production, diversify gas supplies, and improve energy efficiency.

HOW DOES KEE FIT INTO ALL OF THIS?

Our goal at Killarney Eco Energy Ltd (KEE) is to become the leading provider of renewable energy solutions to farmers in Ireland. We have the knowledge and the experience to help you choose the right renewable energy technologies for your farm and then install and maintain them for you.

CONSULTING

We offer a free initial consultation over the phone to discuss your project. We will then visit your site anywhere in Ireland and prepare an initial feasibility study for €200. We can design, construct, test, and connect your new renewable energy system of any size from 2 kW to 100 kW. We are a team of consultants, project managers, and chartered engineers with the support of other professionals who are ready to design and deliver your renewable project.

FINANCIAL

You can pay for your project yourselves, or we can help you get a bank loan and/or a grant from the government, SEAI or IFA. For projects over 200 kW, we can also offer you shares in a limited company that will operate and maintain your newly built renewable energy system. Financing will be split among shareholders. Another option is for us to build the renewable energy system on your land/property and pay you rent for the land/property used for the project.

INITIAL FEASIBILITY STUDY

We will use public data and the data gathered at your property during the first visit to prepare a feasibility study. This initial study will summarize the renewable potential of your site and will propose the best combination of renewable resources at that location. We will also provide an estimate of the energy load of your house and/or business. If the site is going to be focused on export, we will find a suitable grid connection for you. Overall, the study will formulate the best solution given the potential of your site and your ambitions.

PURCHASE / ORDER / CONTRACT

We are happy to build a complete project up to €10,000 following a purchase order from a registered business. We will ask you for a deposit as part of an agreed payment schedule based on the delivery of goods and services for your project. In the case of a larger project, a contract will be signed between the parties.

DESIGN

We will provide you with a full design for a fixed price. The price is usually in the range of 8-12% of the contract price. You will be asked to approve the design before we proceed further with the project.

PROCUREMENT

We will deliver all the equipment, materials, accessories and other components necessary for your project. This will be based on the approved design.

CONSTRUCTION

We will carry out all construction and electrical works necessary for your project. We will do this ourselves or with the help of local subcontractors.

ENERGY USE

The generated energy could be used for your house, to power your farm, business or electric cars and tractors. Some or all of the energy could also be exported to the grid. The new renewable energy system could also be operated in island mode separate from the grid. We will help you find an optimal solution for your specific requirements.

TESTING

Your newly built renewable energy system will be fully tested and commissioned before it is switched into continuous operation.

HANDOVER

The newly built renewable energy system will be handed over to you or to a limited company set up by the parties. An operation and maintenance (O&M) contract could be signed under both arrangements. You can also select the option to maintain the renewable energy system yourself.

WARRANTY

A basic 2-year warranty will apply if you maintain the renewable energy system yourself. This could be extended to a 3-5 year warranty if an O&M contract is in place or a limited company is set up by the parties. We can provide further details upon request.

MAINTENANCE / REPAIRS

Maintenance and Repairs will be provided by us and / or by our Local Subcontractors based on O&M Option selected by yourselves.

Irish Project No.1 &2 - Overall Generation Performance

27/09/2025

0n Sunday 21/09/25 was very nice, bright day with isolated small clouds in the afternoon. The system had the best generating performance in September 2025. 122 kWh was generated by two systems in one day. The overall generation during three months of testing was 6,600 kWh (3,300 kWh per one system). It has confirmed the calculated annual generating capacity 15,000 kWh by one system. 5,167 kWh of generated energy was directly used by the Farm House and by the Farm Workshop (78.3%). It represents saving of EUR 2,735 just in three months of testing with several gaps in performance caused by testing.

Two 6 kW Growatt Inverters can deliver 12 kWh of generated energy every hour during the sunny day. Their Power was restricted by ESB to just 75%. However these two Inverters has generated 34.1 kWh each at this nice day, 68.2 kWh in total. We are hoping that ESB connection will be improved soon and it will allow usage of full power of the system. In this case the return of investment is expected in less than 4 years. Detailed daily performance of Solars 1&2 is shown in Gallery below.
